Single Camera Techniques LAA

single camera assignment
To start of there are two types of productions in films there is a single camera production and the other is a multi camera production a production using single camera are usually series like Brooklyn nine nine (2013-Present) a documentary show like planet earth.(2006-2006) Each shot using a single camera is taken by that same camera where as in multi camera production they use multiple cameras for certain shots and angles where they are best suited. The single camera technique was first used in the early 20th century in early Hollywood on productions but it was in the 1960s when it first got popularized in hit shows like The Adams family (1964-1966) and the Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971).

A scp differs from multi because single camera is used for everything you see in the production where as multi camera is used in different ways for different things this could be a close up for one camera and using a different camera for a tracking shot. In massive productions like the MCU films it is uncommon to use a single camera because it is a massive franchise and extremely expensive to make that is why multi is used to make it look as good as possible on the big screen, However (2013's) Man of steel was used in single shot which again was uncommon for DC to allow this in such a big franchise character.

Advantages to single camera use can include that there good for flexibility and can be shot in multiple locations like drama's they use single camera for this purpose. Another advantage of single camera is that it allows the creator to shoot shots out of sequence and can be shot over a course of several days unlike multi where in a sitcom for example the show must be finished that day. Another example could be that in sitcoms the cameras have to move around and don't have time to properly evaluate the shot and that's why single can be better as it can look a lot better with more room to evaluate the shot and make sure they get all the right angles and shots correctly.

Disadvantages of single camera can be that it takes longer to set up because having only one camera means that once a shot or scene is finished you have to keep moving and setting it back up to each time you want to shoot something different. Another disadvantage of single camera can be that it's to hard recreate the same scene if the camera is moved or altered which wouldn't be the case with multiple cameras. Another disadvantage of single camera Is that there is a lot repetition you have to repeat lots of shots multiple times with different angles as you can only capture one at a time where as if you were using a multiple camera setup you wouldn't come across this issue.

Single camera techniques with single camera there are many techniques one being a pan, panning is where you move the camera horizontal these can be used to capture long shots or environmental shots to show us where the film/TV is set. Zoom is the most common technique it's used to make things look closer or further away from the subject or focus point.

Equipment used in film production there are many pieces of equipment used in film production many of them big and small all are crucial to the projects success one of these being the tripod the tripod is a mount for the camera that keeps its stable and elevated this is useful as it rules out shaky can being in your project which can make the film look unprofessional and lousy. Camera lights are another massive piece of equipment during a production because it's important that you get the right lighting during a scene if natural lighting is not possible or not available during shooting. These aren't just used in films however the techniques and equipment is used in TV programs and even the national news for example on sky news they will use lighting to make sure the host is lighted correctly this is to make it look professional and look important.

The camera movements in this scene from 1917 are Steadicam the camera chases our character round tight streets in a blazing french village the tightness and situation the character is in, paired with the camera techniques makes us feel anxious and on edge as this being an action packed scene gives us the hint of danger and it gives something to fear as we don't know what will happen to the character next. Steadicam allows the camera operator to move about with the camera and capture intense scenes without having the unprofessional look with the camera shaking and it also allows the camera operator to achieve 360 shots Steadicam is great as it lets the director show intense scenes like this and where as if the director had used a regular tracking shot this would not have been achievable. The purpose of this production in particular is to entertain but it can also be seen as educational as it's set during the first world war and it shows us what these men had to endure during such a savage war. The genre of this film is war/action the viewer will expect to lots of violence and gunfire aswell explosions

Pulp fiction

Camera movements in this scene from Tarantinos Pulp Fiction are tracking shots at the beginning of the shot we see the front of a car and immediately the camera pans up to our two characters sitting talking the scene then shifts to inside the restaurant where our characters are being seated to there table this is where the tracking shot begins it carefully follows our characters round the restaurant this particular camera movements makes us actually feel like we are in the restaurant and it produces an interesting effect on the viewer as the camera sticks quite close to the characters throughout the scene. The tracking shot allows the camera to follow the actors around on smooth surface with little movement. The purpose of this production is to entertain the viewer as it's an intense film and will keep the viewer watching. The genre of this film is crime usually in crime films we see murders and robbery taking place the purpose of this genre is to put us in the shoes of people who have that lifestyle.

Indiana Jones Raiders Of The Lost Ark

The camera movements and shots used in this scene from raiders of the lost ark are dolly shots also known as a dolly zooms it is used to zoom in or away from the subject and in this particular case it's used to capture the emotions on Indiana Jones as he prepares to take a golden idol and replace it with sand. The technique produces an intense effect on the viewer as we don't know if indy is going to get away with this it's a perfect way to kick off the beginning of an adventure film. The dolly zoom/shot allows the director to get closer or move away from the subject without having to reposition the camera as it is already on a track allowing for a smoother shot this would have been harder if they had used a tracking shot because there would have been more shaking in the shot making it less effective. The genre of the film is adventure in adventure films we typically see crazy stunts and interesting stories. It's purpose is to entertain us by taking us to places we could only dream of going to in reality.
