Unit 15 Learning Aim A

I have done some research on these ads and I have found some conventions of these two I have noticed for the basketball ads they always have large pictures meaning that this is the main focus point this is what they want the viewers eyes to see as soon as they open the magazine another convention I have seen is that the writing on these magazines are always big bright and bold fonts/colours this is showing that there is some importance in the product.

Codes and conventions of print advertisements

Typically when you take a look at print advertisements you usually see big pictures of the products right in your face this is to show you the product more in depth and to make your eyes focus on that specific item the marketing team does this on purpose to lure you in they want you to take an interest in this product so this is just a good selling tool for the company. Further more you will usually see the companies logo somewhere on the as in this as below the logo is on the top left, we also see big massive writing that takes up a large amount of the as this is to again get our eyes to lock onto the poster and try to drag us in to have an interest into buying the product this is why it’s used

This specific advert is following codes and conventions because they usually have this sort of thing on print adverts like I said above it checks the boxes it has the large image that the consumer instantly looks at it also has the companies logo in the top left this is supporting the brand and informing the consumer who the product is made by if the person looking at likes that company there is a large chance that they will buy the product it also includes the large writing that grabs the viewers eyes so they look in that area. I firmly believe that the conventions have not been challenged.

The seriousness of this advert shows that these Jordans are particularly popular as the way it says "Gravity's worst nightmare" possibly hinting at the fact that the people that wear these can fly like the way Michael Jordan was marketed this is could be special to the audience as it's telling them if they wear this shoe they can be like Michael Jordan. Nike is telling people they need to get these shoes while still hinting towards popularity of the shoe and the athlete who is the face of the brand.

The primary target audience for this product is clearly basketball fans I'm thinking that's its mainly fans that are in their teens to young adults because it's unlikely that older people would be buying this product as it's common that younger people buy trainers and wear them either for fashion or sport purposes. I also know this because Jordan is a basketball brand and usually people who play basketball are in their teens- middle ages adult as the retiring age for a basketball player is usually around the age of 35-40. I think this ad is aimed towards the social grade E C1 and C2 just because I think middle aged people are aimed towards this product as well. When it comes to psychographics I think we are going to be looking at sporty people here people who enjoying playing sports I couldn’t see someone who is in to dancing for example buying this product as that is not what it was really designed for. The personalities of the consumer would be heavily athletic related I would think and maybe be friendly and easy to talk to as this is a huge plus when it comes to team mates in sports.

I believe that this advert has Gunn's 12 advertising included type 1 to be more specific as at the bottom it lists the benefits of the shoe saying it's "premium leather" and "tumbled details" this is giving the audience a reason to buy this product as they buyer wants a quality shoe that they know is of high grade so the "premium leather" draws potential buyers in I also firmly believe that this advert has a small bit of type 4 Gunn's 12 included I believe this because the ad says "Perhaps no sneaker white black and red as memorable as the Jordan 1" im thinking this is type 4 because although it's not directly they are comparing them selves to every other sneaker made saying that they possibly did it the best and no one came close to doing it as effective as them.

AIR JORDAN 1 BANNED (TV ADVERT)

Your typical codes and conventions of a TV advert you see the product quite a lot which is expected when they are trying to push you to buy that product when it comes to trainers on TV they nearly always have a famous person wearing them this is pushing you to buy them so you can be like that celebrity or so you can say that you have the same fashion sense as a celebrity we see a lot of TV ads with either music in the background or someone giving commentary this is tactic to try and interest you more by making the product sound more trendy or by having people recommend it sometimes the commentator gives you a brief summary of the product this is so you know what you are buying and to see if you think it is the right product for you.

Air Jordan 1 banned ad

For my second advertisement im analysing this very famous TV advert and marketing technique used by Nike in the advert it claims that this shoe was invented by Nike but the NBA banned the shoe from being used this was partly true and also had some false to it the NBA didn't ban the shoe it's self they just banned the red and black colour way as seen in the picture above from being played in NBA games. Because at the time it went against the terms of the NBA and Nike made a full TV ad about the so-called banned Jordan 1s this goes against codes and conventions because most ads are happy and promote the product in other ways instead of straight up talking about how the shoe was not good enough for the NBA. Which is one of the biggest basketball leagues in the world and even at the end of the ad they say "the NBA can't stop you from wearing these" again showing that these shoes were one of a kind. Michael Jordan did eventually wear these shoes later that year just he wore the red and white ones which were allowed in NBA games.

Nike made the NBA look like the bad guys in this ad by them not allowing there star athlete to wear his new signature shoe on the court when this was false he could wear his new shoes just not the red and black colours. Nike stated that "The NBA had thrown them out of the game" which gets the viewers wondering why the nba would do this and this makes people more interested in the product this is strange but spectacular marketing for Nike because they created a story and a sense of urgency for this product that caused massive theory's for years until being debunked a few years ago.

As said above I do firmly believe that this advert goes against codes and conventions and I know this because this advert is very unique it's not a common thing to see a company go against its partners like in this advert it caused speculation for years and made the product they were trying to sell and massive financial success

The target audience for this advert is aimed for teens and young adults who are interested in basketball I know this because it's highly unlikely that they would put out an advert advertising basketball shoes that's aimed towards people above the age of 60 as people in this age category are not primarily playing basketball during the day that's why I believe it's aimed for teens and young adults as it's more common for people in this age range to play sports. A student and someone is who is on an average wage has the social grade of e or c2. Psychographics for these people would most likely be sports if they are buying basketball trainers I firmly believe that they will be buying them to play in or they will be buying them to support their team. Their personalities would possibly be dedicated to sports and leadership and team work skills as they are required for athletes.

I believe that this advert could be used in the modern day because of its nostalgia as the people who saw this advert when it first aired will now be in there late 30s+ so it could be used to get a new audience the younger people interested in the classic Jordans and it can also be used to get the people who originally saw this air when they were young back into Jordans.

I believe this advert has Gunn's 12 in it i think this ad has type eight, type eight is ongoing character and celebrity this ad has type eight because Michael Jordan is the main focus point of the ad he's the first thing you see this builds the brand up giving it a stronger identity and Michael Jordan was the perfect candidate for the advertisement as it's for his shoes and his brand. consumers are very likely to buy this when a celebrity they admire is associated with the campaign. The audience is also getting drawn into the product with the face of a icon promoting the brand/product

FAIRY WASHING UP LIQUID (SOCIAL MEDIA/WEB)

The 3rd advert I'm going to be doing is web ad thats advertising fairy washing up liquid on social media.

Typically the codes and conventions if a social media advert is the product is usually right in the viewers face so we can see what the company is trying to sell us they usually have a some piece of writing where it describes there product briefly or it will say that there product is better than the competition this is drawing you in making you want to buy their product and not go with the competition I agree and think that this follows typical codes and conventions for a social media marketing advert as it checks the majority of boxes.
It follows typical codes and conventions for social media advertising posts as most of the competitors follow this layout it's seems to be quite a common thing when it comes to announcing products on social media. Another reason I personally believe that it’s following codes and conventions because it's typical for soap ads to say that they are better than the competition this is to drawn you into their product

looking at this ad I'm estimating that the target audience is for people in the 25+ age range as this is most popular age range for people who own a home or a renting a home so they would be using washing up liquid to do the dishes after cooking. Im thinking that there aiming towards anyone really as anyone can do the washing up there isn't really an age limit or gender type so it can be aimed towards male and female over the age of 25 from all kinds of backgrounds rich and poor people however if narrowing it down I'm guessing the social grades will E C1 and C2. They would probably be interested in creative activities maybe cooking or baking that’s why fairy liquid would be a good product for them it’s uncommon that a golf player for example would be heavily interested in this type of product.
.

I believe this advert has Gunn's 12 advertising inside the exact Gunn's 12 I think it relates to would most likely have to be Gunn's type 4 which is comparison it's where an advert compares their product to another product in the same field. In these specific advertisements usually the companies presented product comes out as the superior product and the one to buy which is in the case of fairy liquid which is better than the competition according to their

(TYPES OF SOCIAL GRADES)

The SOC is a system used by the government to determine the nation's social classes this varies from what job the person has or they yearly income. It's used by big companies to pick which marketing techniques are good for what social class and why this based on what they search or have shown interest in the past.

It’s important for companies to use psychographics and demographics as then they can really see who and how they are going to target that specific audience and how they are going to make the right campaigns for their products to lure in the people that they are trying to intrigue and to interest them in their product they may take their age gender job type salary hobbies that sort of thing into account when preparing a campaign

An accurate example of putting people's social grades is this graph as you can see it pick apart people jobs and roles showing demographic and psychographics and the social grades the 3 ads I have analysed I have made reference of this.

(ADVERTISING SECTOR)

The advertising sector for the first two ads are definitely magazine and tv ads these came out in the 80s computer ads were uncommon then as computers where still a experimental piece of technology and had not yet been fully mastered so then most marketing back then was through paper magazine and tv. However my 3rd advert shows modern advertising as it's from present day
